The California Department of Transportation has launched a major construction effort along I-80 in the Sierra region. Construction will provide various road improvements, including concrete overlays or replacements and road widening over a nearly 80-mile stretch of I-80 (Colfax, CA to the Nevada State line) and may result in lane closures throughout the duration of the project. Construction is anticipated to continue from April-November through 2012 (actual construction schedules may vary and are subject to weather conditions).
Starting March 31, 2009 on west-bound I-80 in Colfax, lane closures will be in effect from 7 pm - 8 am Monday through Friday, and 7 pm - 10 am on weekends, and may occur seven days a week. Car traffic will be detoured onto Rollins Lake Road Exit #140 and truck and large commercial traffic will be detoured at State Highway Exit #161, and be required to follow Hwy 20 - Hwy 49 and route back to I-80 in Auburn. This specific project has the potential to cause significant delays in travel and commute times and it is imperative that drivers plan accordingly.
